IDA World Congress 2019

October 20 - April 24 • Dubai, UAE • idadesal.org

The theme of the 2019 World Congress is ‘Crossroads to Sustainability’ – how we evolve the role of desalination and how it works with new technologies to ensure sustainability of water resources. This theme is pivotal to the varied discussions already taking place surrounding the growing demand for a sustainable source of fresh water in response to population growth, economic expansion, degradation of existing resources, energy-water-food nexus, and the effects of climate change. The Technical Program focuses on a broad range of desalination and water reuse technologies, practices and experiences, recognizing that resources and requirements can vary based on local needs, climate conditions, natural resources, and locations.

The World Congress will feature four days of technical sessions, lectures, workshops and will include an open forum of roundtable like discussions, a Dialogue Hall and for the first time a leader’s summit.

IDA World Congress 2019 - Workshop

October 19 • Dubai World Trace Center, UAE • idadesal.org

The presenter of the workshop is Jantje Johnson.
Jantje Johnson is a chemical engineer and has more than 30 years of international water treatment experience.  She has a membrane, water treatment chemical and equipment background resulting of having worked at DOW, Nalco (PermaCare) and NIVOBA.  At DOW, she was responsible for DOW’s membrane development, ROSA (RO software), technical service, and membrane quality.  At PermaCare, she was responsible for developing the membrane chemical business and technical support.
She started OrangeBoat in 2009 to focus on consulting.
At OrangeBoat, she provides consulting services including design support, troubleshooting, system/process optimization, water treatment technology evaluations in addition to developing RO tools.  She has been providing these services to end-users, engineering companies, membrane manufacturers and OEM’s globally.

The workshop is diving deep into the design, operation and maintenance of RO systems.  Therefore, it is important that participants have a fundamental understanding of RO, pretreatment and operation.  The workshop is designed for RO system operators and designers to gather information, ask questions and solve problems.

Description of workshop
The workshop includes:
1. Pretreatment: technologies and chemicals
2. RO design: RO membrane elements, RO configurations, membrane replacement strategies. A proprietary reference tool will be introduced that aids in selecting/screening membrane elements from different membrane manufacturers.
3. Cleaning: Effective cleaning of reverse osmosis systems is dependent on several key parameters. These key parameters include RO system design, membrane selection, cleaning skid design, operation, membrane chemicals and cleaning procedures. Information on these key parameters and their impact on effective cleaning will be discussed in detail.
Cleaning case studies  will be presented.
4. Troubleshooting:Different methods are discussed that can be used to identify and locate the performance problem in the RO system.
